FAQs

Who are you?

I’m a husband, dad of 4, enneagram 9w1, anglican, Pittsburgher-in-exile. I love good design, silly comedies, deep books, and Intelligentsia coffee. I have a masters degree from the University of St. Andrews, UK and barring anything else would live in Scotland in a heartbeat. I’ve done non-profit work in East Africa and if I couldn’t live in Scotland, I think Kenya would be my next choice. I’ve taken photos seriously for roughly 20 years, but in 3rd grade I won a very prestigious elementary school photography contest. I’ve been published a bit as well!

What are your prices?

I’m happy to talk about your goals and budget and go from there.

There are tons of photographers out there. Why should we choose you?

Photography is this incredible mix of art and science. We’re balancing light, color, movement, depth and composition to extract a technically sound photo that expresses something beautiful and unique. But the oft under-appreciated skill is knowing people. Alfred Eisenstaedt, famous for his Times Square, VJ Day kiss photo, said,

It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter.

Anyone can pose a subject, adjust some settings, and press a button. But to really capture the essence of a person or persons, a good photographer is going to know their subject(s), to make them comfortable, and hopefully even make them laugh.

What does a shoot look like for you?

Ideally we’re casually enjoying someplace beautiful in natural light. We may pose a bit, but our goal is to capture you really enjoying wherever and whomever you’re with.

I’ll use a Fuji X100T, a fixed lens (no zoom), 35mm perspective digital camera. I have conversion lenses to go wider or closer, but we might not even use those. Gear is great, but too often it ends up using the photographer rather than the photographer using the gear.

If you are a gear-head, I’ll list at the bottom some of the things I use and have used:

Do people like your work?

“★★★★★! Aaron has a knack for capturing raw beauty and spontaneity, and this results in a very fresh, clean quality to his work. My family had a great time working with him on a photo shoot with our infant daughter, and he made the experience seem so effortless, casual and fun!” - Miranda

”Working with Aaron is such a joy. Not only is he easy to partner with, but his skills and artistry are top rate. He’s able to capture both the wider excitement of an event as well as the particular, special moments it entails. He’s also very professional, able to deliver the finished product quickly and with joy.” - Father Rick

”Aaron so easily captured the magical moments from my house show. The quality of the picture matches the quality of the moment. ” - David
